Abstract

Comparing the processes in Tambov and Tver province the author shows peculiarity of ecological situation in whole Russia in the second part of 19 – the beginning of 20 century. As Tver’s peasants try to improve fertility poor soil, in Tambov province they continued to exhaust natural resources. As a whole the province administration and selfgovernment failed to convince peasants and landowners to use more environment-friendly technologies.
