Abstract

Article deals with the generalized characteristic of the administrative-territorial system of rural areas of Novgorod land before Peter I the Great. Period of the independent Novgorod State (X century – 1478) is badly provided by sources of the problem. However, data archeology, sphragistics, chronicles, birch-bark letters, treaties, private acts and census books (so called «pistcovye knigi») considered in combination, allow to propose the reconstruction of the main features and dynamics of the system studied – as it relates to colonization, the emergence of feudal estates and church-parish structure. More systematic information on the problem historical sources of the end of the XV – XVII centuries provide. The Moscow Government has conducted a major reorganization of territorial division and management in the Novgorod land. This reorganization was fixed by the census books. Structure of the Novgorod diocese can be characterized by «Book of records Sofia fees» 1576/77 year.
