Abstract

The article deals with the official statements of the West-German government concerning the relations between the USSR and West Germany 1985 to 1991. The author considers two speeches of the Federal Chancellor Helmut Kohl made in July and September of 1990. The method being used is the critical discourse analysis, which allows to reveal the ideological and political semantics of the Chancellor’s expressions. The results of the analysis also allow to draw some conclusions about the nature of the public discourse in West Germany.
