Abstract

The article analyzes the sources of the personal origin of foreigners who were on the territory of the Russian Empire in the second half of the 18th century. Various forms of sources of personal origin are considered: diaries, memoirs, notes, personal letters. The content of the sources of personal origin is being studied. On the basis of memoir data, the author identifies the main points associated with the formation of the image of the Russian Empire. The author comes to the conclusion that the memories presented in the texts make it possible to see the dependence of the influence of various factors on the formation of the state's image. A small historiographic overview is given. The author used an integrated approach, which made it possible to consider the role of memory in the context of commemorative practices in sources of personal origin. The researcher comes to the conclusion that the image of Russia is a connecting element between foreigners who were in the Russian Empire in the second half of the 18th century
