Abstract

The article considers the problems of ethnic and cultural attribution of the second quarter of the 1-st millennium AD antiquities and the colonization of the Slavic tribes of the Upper Volga. The author analyses the Late Dyakovo and the Early Middle Age ceramics pottery and distinguishes different cultural stages of the settlement: the end of the 1-st millennium BC – the beginning of the 1-st millennium AD; the 4-th – 5-th centuries; the third quarter ofthe 1-st millennium AD; the last quarter of the 1-st millennium AD. The author notes that in the last quarter of the 1-st millennium AD there were changes in a material culture connected with the migration of a new population on the Upper Volga territory.
