IEROMONAKH ILIODOR (S.M. TRUFANOV) IN A HISTORIOGRAPHY

Abstract
The image of scandalous monk Iliodor (1880-1952) reflected in the historiography is being discussed in this article. The author shows, that already famous contemporaries of «Mad Monk of Russia», such as N.A. Berdyaev, V.V. Rozanov, M.O. Menshikov expressed their opinions about him and his activity. The early soviet historians usually didn’t find any differences between Iliodor and other church and conservative figures, for example Saint John of Kronstadt or Iliodor’s patron Bishop of Saratov Hermogen (Dolganov). In the mod-ern historiography the name of Iliodor is rather popular, though the set of facts and conclu-sions that can be revealed in these works, is extremely limited, and so there is a great need in new complex works about Iliodor.Downloads
