Abstract

The article is devoted to legislative and logistical foundations of the book trade and the mechanisms of distribution of printed output in the stores of shopping arcades. The author argues that such form of trade was mainstream device in pre-Revolutionary Russian Prov-inces. In the article the author tried to find answers on the number of questions. How effec-tive was abovementioned way of book trade? Could it satisfy cultural and educational needs of provincial reader? What kind of books the arcade’s stores sold and what audience it was meant for? Those and other questions should be answered in order to evaluate book trade in the stores of the shopping arcades.
