This article analyzes housing construction in Moscow in the 1950s, when housing became a social issue. An economic approach to housing construction became a priority, tolerating no delays, replacing Stalin's Empire style. A preoccupation with the classical style conflicted with the desire for mass housing construction, when industrialization of construction and standardized design became the main principles of construction. The author examines the period of the mid-1950s, when the acute housing crisis in the Soviet Union urgently dictated changes in the architecture of residential buildings. Five-story construction in the capital made it possible to quickly resolve the housing crisis and relocate Soviet citizens to individual apartments, a significant social achievement.
