Abstract

The article examines the issue of the presence and orientation of sympathy for the priest in Russian folk proverbs. The inconsistency of folklore texts on this issue is shown, but with a dominant discourse of a positive plan. The author substantiates the statements in folk proverbs about the need for a priest in the life of peasants throughout their earthly journey; the special distinctive external and internal image of a priest, his status; the obligation of material remuneration for funeral services; the juxtaposition of images of a priest and a devil, etc. Folk splints and Orthodox color symbols are also used as sources. Special attention is paid to confirming the topos under consideration with specific examples from the official activities of priests and their communication with the clergy.
