Abstract

The article examines the problem of organizing premises for theological schools in the first quarter of the 19th century, using the Tver Diocese as a case study. The need to find new premises for these schools arose following the initiation of the theological education reform of 1808–1814, which envisioned a significant increase in the number of theological schools. At the same time, the authors of the reform did not sufficiently address the issue of providing these new educational institutions with adequate facilities. The funding for the purchase, construction, and renovation of school buildings remained largely overlooked. Throughout the first 17 years of the reform, the Holy Synod allocated funds for the renovation of theological school premises in the Tver Diocese unsystematically and irregularly. A common practice was to house schools within monasteries. Consequently, the premises did not meet the actual needs of the theological schools.
