Abstract

In this article, through the prism of studying the architectural and construction history of one of the houses of the last quarter of the 18^th century on the territory of the former Zatmatsky Posad of Tver, a detailed analysis of the initial stage of development of this part of the city according to the «regular» plan of 1777 is given. The main focus is on the main, front «facade» of Zatmachye – the embankment of the Tmaka River, on which, according to a new urban planning document of the second half of the 70s of the 18^th century, only stone residential buildings were allowed to be erected. This condition was observed until the beginning of the 20^th century, and the Vagins merchants played a fundamental role in the construction of the embankment with stone houses. Being large grain merchants and, consequently, wealthy people, in the 18^th century. They built not only stone houses in Tver, but also served as curators of a number of stone parish and monastery churches.
