The object of the study is the existing methods for assessing the effectiveness of customs authorities and the functions of customs control units. The purpose of the work is to substantiate the need to increase the efficiency of the customs authority by eliminating the performance of unusual operations by control units and shifting the focus of their activities to the direct implementation of assigned tasks in the areas of customs control. The reduction of the risk of unaccounted customs offenses from the point of view of the economic security of the state is justified. The author's position is formulated on the need to improve the methodology for assessing the effectiveness of the customs authority and fulfilling the assigned tasks exclusively in the area of activity of each customs control unit.
