Abstract

The article is devoted to the organization and activities of the legal clinic as a participant in the non-state system of providing free legal assistance. Legal clinics that emerged at the turn of the century have firmly entered the practice of the educational process of higher educational institutions of a legal profile long before their legal regulation at the level of a legislative act. Taking into account current trends in strengthening control and monitoring of the activities of legal clinics by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation and its territorial bodies, the article provides a critical analysis of recent changes in the legislation on free legal aid. The article highlights the main problems faced by legal clinics at the stage of formation and current activities, including the low interest of representatives of the teaching staff, the artificial limitation of the contingent of students involved in advising citizens, as well as the consequences of the digitalization of society. At the same time, it is concluded that there is a need for a wider introduction of clinical education as the most successful technology for the formation of students' practical skills
