Abstract

The questions of the legal grounds for the emergence of single motherhood in various periods of the development of Russian legislation – from the imperial to the present time are considered. A critical assessment is given to a number of regulatory and legal decisions that discriminate against the status of a single mother. A social characteristic of single motherhood is proposed. The socio-legal varieties of this phenomenon are revealed – single motherhood based on fictitious divorce, actual widowhood, surrogate motherhood, emancipated worldview, etc.
