Features of Investigating Crimes Related to Illegal Arms Trafficking during a Special Military Operation

The scientific article examines the features of the investigation of crimes related to the illicit trafficking of weapons in the context of a special military operation, which are caused both by military operations and by changes in society caused by the conflict. The article discusses the main factors that influence the course of the investigation. The main goal of the study is to develop and justify a comprehensive methodology for investigating crimes related to the illicit trafficking of weapons, taking into account the specific conditions of a special military operation, in order to improve the efficiency of detecting, suppressing, and solving such crimes. The research methods include a systematic and comparative legal analysis of the regulatory framework, a generalization of investigative and judicial practice, forensic modeling, expert and analytical assessment, as well as the study and interpretation of empirical materials from law enforcement agencies. The research results can be summarized as follows: the illegal circulation of weapons in the context of the special military operation (SMO) requires the adaptation of existing methodological approaches; it is necessary to strengthen interagency cooperation, introduce modern forensic technologies, improve the qualifications of employees, and develop a comprehensive investigation methodology, which will increase the detection rate and reduce the criminal threat.
