Recognizing that human rights are one of the greatest achievements of civilization, the author points out that everything can be abused, including those rights. According to him, the abuse of human rights exists when these rights are used contrary to their purpose, and with the aim of achieving some kind of undue advantage (rights, benefits, etc.) to themselves or to others, or to cause illegally some damage to others. Human rights can be abused first of all by the individuals and groups they belong to. However, they can be abused, also by another subjects, among which particularly important are states. Referring to the practice, the author brings a number of examples of such abuses and their consequences, both within the states and in international frameworks. At the very end he concludes that the consequences of the abuse of human rights are often very difficult, especially when great power is in the role of the abuser. Due to their political, economic and other power, such countries are sometimes in position not only to impose their will, but also to create an illusion that they are in fact fighting criminals, working for the sake justice, and so on.Published
