Abstract

The purpose of this article is to study the formation of a tradition of teaching philosophy and logic within the movement known as «Russian scholasticism». This article analyzes the phenomenon of «Russian scholasticism», spanning the historical period from the late 16th to the early 18th centuries and associated with the activities of Orthodox theological educational institutions: Orthodox fraternal schools that emerged in the second half of the 16th century in the Lithuanian-Russian lands of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and the Kiev-Mohyla Academy and the Moscow Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy that emerged in the second half of the 17th century during the pre-Petrine era. Based on the study of this phenomenon, it has been established that during this period, monastic education and scholarship, based on the personal practice of communication between a mentor (confessor) and students and aimed at shaping the student's spirituality, were replaced by scholastic scholarship, which conveyed a certain body of knowledge that was theologically oriented but not directly dependent on the teacher. A gradual transition toward the development of education in the modern sense of the word is underway. The results of the study can be used to improve the methodological competencies of both teachers of philosophical disciplines and students.
