The principle of value neutrality in social and humanitarian cognition
Abstract
The focus of this article is to determine the specific interpretation of the principle of value neutrality within contemporary social and humanitarian knowledge. Additionally, this analysis takes into consideration the impact of everyday life and the cognitive environment on modern socio-humanitarian understanding. Methodology and sources. The methodological basis of the research was the concept of scientific paradigms developed by V.S. Stepin. Analysis, synthesis, concretization, generalization, and systematization were also used. Results and discussion. The paper presents the characteristic features and outlines the modern cognitive situation in social and humanitarian cognition, defines value judgments, and substantiates their inevitability in science. The current understanding of the principle of «value neutrality» is considered. The substantial characteristics of the principle of value neutrality are actualized for its practical application as a complement to evaluative judgments and one of the criteria for the quality of scientific research in modern socio-humanitarian knowledge. Conclusion. The current cognitive situation in modern socio-humanitarian cognition requires understanding and interpreting the definition of «value judgments», identifying the essence of the principle of value neutrality in order to identify the prospects for its practical application. The relevance of the principle of value neutrality is limited by its outdated understanding, but it can receive meaningful characteristics adequate to the current stage of society's development.
