Atrophy of thinking in a digital society
Abstract
The article examines the phenomenon of thinking atrophy in the context of the rapid digitalization of modern society. It applies a comprehensive approach to the problem of thinking atrophy, combining cognitive science, philosophy, and sociology of the digital society, to reveal the causes and consequences of thinking atrophy. The article analyzes the key issues related to the transformation of cognitive processes, the factors contributing to the decline in the depth and criticality of thinking caused by information overload, superficial perception, and dependence on digital technologies, and suggests ways to overcome these challenges through philosophical reflection on changes in cognitive activity, the development of digital cognitive hygiene, and critical thinking. The article concludes that the role of thinking in the digital age needs to be reevaluated, and that solving this problem requires the integration of cognitive, educational, and philosophical approaches.
