Abstract

This article explores the problem of norm and abnormality using Michel Foucault's 1975 lectures, titled «Abnormal», as an example. In these lectures, the thinker, fifty years ago, began his transition from the problem of madness to the problem of power. The author imbues these questions with philosophical and cultural content, denying psychiatry the sole right to understand norm and madness, thereby laying the foundations for understanding madness as a poststructuralist problem. The paper presents research by contemporary authors, whose work maintains Foucault's position and takes on new meaning. The author discusses the potential for developing Foucault's teachings within contemporary society.
