The concept of the orientation of the personality and its structure, the essence of the motivational-value orientation of the personality to professional activity and its role in the process of professionalization are analyzed. The results of an empirical study of the motivational-value orientation of the personality of students for professional activities in the field of special education are given. Directions of work to improve the professional training of defectologists related to the motivational-demand sphere of students are proposed
