Abstract

The philosophers and teachers of the Russian abroad who belonged to the “first wave” and who explored the subject of education and upbringing of Russian children in emigration, are proved to have put forward and substantiated a number of fundamental ideas which were of primary importance to the music education in Russian schools abroad and served as a theoretical basic for the education. These included ideas about the need to preserve the national identity of refugee children, educate and bring them up following Russian spiritual values, teachings of the Russian Orthodox Church and the best achievements of Russian and world art. The thesis that musical art was interpreted by the Russian emigre philosophical and pedagogical thought as a powerful factor in the national, moral and aesthetic education of Russian refugees' children, as well as an effective means of their psycho-emotional support, is justified
