The inclusion of theatrical pedagogy in the teaching process of a foreign language has a long and complex history, beginning with active theatricalization of the occupation by the supporters of the direct and natural method and the foreign methodology, from the late 19th and early 20th centuries; Russian student theater performances; theatricalization of classroom and extracurricular activities in the period after 1917 until the complete rejection of creative theatricality and the transition to a rigid algorithmization of studies, tradition; an exemplary pupil, an ideal teacher.In the article, pedagogical activity is regarded as a semiotic field that requires the possession of non-verbal components of communication. The Russian pedagogical school at any time was distinguished by strict discipline and a rigorous system of teaching knowledge. In this regard, the development of theatrical technologies in the teaching of foreign languages is of undoubted scientific interest and is an actual topic in the light of further development of the paradigm of humanistic pedagogy.
