Abstract

The article reviews the current versions of the most popular authoring tools: Adobe Captivate 2017, Articulate Storyline 3, CourseLab 3 и Lectora Inspire 17. Functionality and mechanisms of creating demonstration of software and interactive software simulation are tested on free trial versions of these authoring tools which are in open access on the websites of the developer companies. The article gives a comparison of the tools' interfaces, difficulties of mastering them and of the supported publication formats. With regard to screencasting and the ability to model software operation, an analysis is made of how the declared functionality is implemented and how it differs from the corresponding toolkit among competitors
