Abstract

The article deals with the issue of the development of social work as a profession on the basis of professional education concept, formulated by Mary Richmond. The period from the idea’s inception to its realization in first professional schools is under historical analysis. It is shown that the professional education has contributed to the development of theoretical basis and standards of social work, and its transformation from charity into the intellectual profession. The concept of professional education by Mary Richmond, consisted of organizational, substantive and methodological components, is under examination
