Abstract

Peculiarities of occupational choice are considered in the paper. The choice relates to existential personal choices which are situation of uncertainty. In that situations a person does not have any fixed set of alternatives. A search of personal meaning in the future profession is emphasized in the article. The common for all people personal meaning does not exist because of a unique experience of each personality which depends on many things like personality features, unique life experience and its complex of objective and subjective factors. Four major common values which affect on the professional choice are defined. First is wish of material success, second is the process of work itself, third is personal development and impact to social life increasing social level. Results of works and researches are analyzed which describe the differences in the semantic sphere of a personality before and after the choice is done. It is found out that changes are happening in the content of the semantic sphere, especially meaning of a family plays bigger role. Perhaps it relates to the fact that person leaves a parents’ home at the same time and extension of a circle of friends and romantic relations. After the occupational choice is done life guidance includes a wish to be active, to have changes and to have personal development. Those factors indicate that a personality is satisfied by a choice. The satisfaction accelerate the adaptation to the new study environment, and the study process goes well
