Abstract

The article presents specific features and details of the development of gender studies as an academic subject in Western Europe and the USA. This problem is considered to be topical because of the necessity to develop gender approach in the Russian system of education and at the same time because of the absence of the description of the experience of foreign countries in this matter. The main purpose of this article is to reveal the specific features and details of the development of gender studies which gave rise to a new approach in pedagogics- gender approach, which nowadays fulfills the main aims of the modernization of the system of education and creates conditions for gender equity
