This article examines the name of the «dominant» Russian Orthodox Church in the Russian Empire. It discusses its lack of an official name, provides a list of its unofficial names, and explains the term «dominant» used in the legislation of the Russian Empire to refer to the Orthodox Church. The article concludes that the most accurate of all the unofficial names is the «Orthodox Greek-Russian Church» .The primary source material is legislative acts of the Russian Empire, the Provisional Government, and the Soviet Government.
