Abstract

The article presents a review of А.А. Kazakov's monograph «Joseph Volotsky: from Hagiographical Narrative to Intellectual Biography», in which the life of St. Joseph is studied within the cultural and historical context of his era. The monograph presents a study whose primary sources are a collection of hagiographic texts dedicated to St. Joseph. The author attempts to discern historical realities behind the hagiographic narrative, including reexamining some established stereotypes associated with the perception of the historical Joseph of Volotsk.
