The object of the study is environmental education as a system of knowledge, skills and abilities in the field of interaction between society and nature, as well as environmental education, which is focused on the formation of a responsible attitude to environmental issues. The purpose of the work is to consider the peculiarities of the formation of the ecological culture of the younger generation on the example of the implementation in the Tver region of an ecological social project in the field of solid municipal waste management by volunteers - students of the law faculty of Tver State University. The necessity of forming a certain level of ecological culture in society and the implementation of practically significant tasks to improve the quality of the environment is substantiated.
