Within the framework of this work, the problems of learning Chinese by Russian students at the initial stage are considered. As a result of studying the theoretical literature and practical experience in teaching Chinese, the main difficulties associated with the linguistic, grammatical, phonetic and cultural features of the ancient oriental language were identified. The results of the study showed that an important role at the initial stage of education is played by the motivation of students to study.
