Abstract

Our previous study about the psychology students’ motivation of the scientific and professional concepts’ formation of the course «Mathematical methods in psychology» in Russia and China showed that Russian students have the cognitive and social motivation, and the Chinese students – professional and social. This article aims to study structural features of motivation’s influence on the formation of the statistical concepts’ system in Russian and Chinese samples. Investigation was conducted in the department of psychology, SPbU and Shandong pedagogical university. This study showed that structural features of motivation’s influence on the formation of the statistical concepts’ system are different, too. For the Russian students motivation influences the examination result by content specifications, but for the Chinese students – by the structural characteristics of the statistical concepts’ system. We interpreted these differences on account of the differences between the Russian and Chinese cultures. The findings reveal the mechanism of the motivation’s influence on the scientific and professional concepts’ formation and will help to stimulate students to master mathematical methods with regard to cross-cultural differences
